At the age of 15, through sheer coincidence, I made a friend that set off a chain of events that earned me a scholarship to one of the best private Christian schools in Miami. I studied hard, played Varsity Football and was on the Wrestling team. I was even elected Student Body Vice President my Senior year. I was able to do all of these things and still maintain a 3.0+ Grade Point Average... you could say that things were really going well for the first time in my young life!
After I graduated from high school I was on my own. Aside from a small stipend each month, my support from the state of Florida was pretty much over. So I did what many have done before me, I went off to college and took out student loans. As a Freshman at Florida State University I did pretty well. I kept my grades up, participated in school activities, and even considered joining a fraternity. However, after the monthly stipend from the state dried up... I was forced to start working. Soon I found that I was working more that studying and my grades began to drop. It was at this point that I made the decision to enlist in the United States Air Force. The plan was simple: enlist, get training, finish my education, get some professional experience and travel the world. So off to San Antonio I went. Six weeks later I graduated with Honors from Basic Training and attended my technical training as a computer operator at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. I then served two years in the United Kingdom at R.A.F Mildenhall and two more years at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico. During my enlistment in the U.S.A.F. I continued my education and graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a B.S. in Computer Information Systems.
